Discovering French household equipment: which trends, what successes, what developments in equipment for the digital revolution?

Equipment is the basis for every use; it is the vital condition for every change in media behaviour.

The Référence des Equipements Multimédias enables household media and multimedia equipment to be identified precisely.

Conducted in partnership between Médiamétrie and the GFK group, every quarter the Référence des Equipements Multimédias provides a unique reference for household equipment in France: number of households with an Internet subscription, emerging equipment, profile of over or under-equipped households, etc. Over 50 items of equipment and types of subscription are studied in detail. The list of equipment studied is updated every quarter according to the latest innovations.

There are two versions of this study: the household version and the individual version.

The REM is intended for:

  • advertiser
  • manufacturers
  • ISPs
  • telecoms operators
  • media groups
  • media agencies

The Référence des Equipements Multimédias is conducted every quarter with a sample representing 6,000 households in France (i.e. 22,000 households per year), questioned face to face (CAPI method) on the multimedia equipment present in the household.

By combining Médiamétrie and GFK skills, the Référence des Equipements Multimédiasenables us to find out exactly which media and multimedia equipment is used in French households.

Quarterly results published on the online interface on the 25th of the month following the end of the quarter.

Since 2007, the study has been providing two different interpretation keys: a first level of results for households and a second for individuals.
